EBSU College of Health Sciences Receives Medical Books/Journals from UK-Based Consultant Physician

While Nigerians celebrated Democracy Day on Thursday, May 29th 2025, the EBSU College of Health Sciences received current medical textbooks & journals numbering over 100 from a UK-based consultant physician, Dr. Perpetua Uke. Dr. Uke is a member of the 2003/2004 graduating set (fondly called the CDites Class) and currently lives in Birmingham, UK.

The presentation was made by the donor, Dr Uke who spoke live from the UK, while the president of the 2003/2004 CDites Class, Dr JC Nwobodo and another CDite member, Dr. CC Offor (the current HOD of Pharmacology & Therapeautics, EBSU-CHS) were physically present to handover the books to the Vice-chancellor of EBSU Prof. MU Awoke who was ably represented by CHS Provost Prof. DD Nwibo.

In his acceptance speech, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the CDites for being true ambassadors of both the college and the University in their different countries of abode and chosen professions. In particular, the VC thanked Dr. Uke for meticulously packaging the medical books and journals in such great numbers, while noting that their currency makes them valuable assets for staff, students, and researchers to consult. He used the opportunity to encourage all EBSU alumni/groups to toe the line of Dr. Uke via donation of items, gifting of any academic infrastructural projects, and/ or setting up of trust funds in the college.

The donated materials will be cataloged by the university librarian and deposited at the EBSU Medical Library, located at FETHA-2, for public access to both students and staff.

Thank you
